Sound Hearing Clinic: 2018

As another year draws to a close, I'd like to reflect on the last twelve months here in the clinic; 2018 has been a great year.  Personally, our team here at the clinic makes coming in to work a pleasure.  Cheery “hello’s” and bright, smiley “good mornings” are such a warm way to start every day.

As well as providing services to clients here in downtown Vancouver, our audiologists maintain busy schedules outside their clinic days.

  • Christopher continues to provide outreach services to the communities of Anahim Lake, Bella Bella, Bella Coola, Klemtu, as well as Masset and Skidegate on Haida Gwaii.
  • Mark returned to teaching at the University of British Columbia School of Audiology and Speech Sciences. He has been assisting with the Advanced Amplification Lab classes, one day per week, since the beginning of the Fall term.
  • Cheri-Leigh continues to advocate for the use of hearing protection and the dangers of noise exposure. She is also involved with teaching at BCIT and UBC.

In September we held an educational seminar at UBC, Robson Square campus. Topics included: Tinnitus, The Effects of Untreated Hearing Loss, and a technology update. We were joined by representatives from Oticon who told us about their latest technology. It was a joy to be joined by clients, and new faces alike. Keep an eye on Facebook, the clinic website, or Twitter for upcoming events.

Oticon launched an expansion of the successful OPN series of hearing instruments with a line of custom products. OPN technology has changed the way in which we think about and employ directionality.

ReSound Linx Quattro was launched in the Fall and allows for improved speed of processing and streaming sound quality improvements. This line also allows clients the option of rechargeability with their built in Lithium Ion batteries.

Starkey Livio means that hearing device technology has, and will continue to, move toward hearing “wellness” and objectifying this with numbers. Starkey launched an app which can be used in conjunction with the hearing aids to track brain and body health.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support over the last twelve months, and to wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season. See you in 2019!

Today's technology means that you have a wide range of options available to help with hearing loss. Hearing aid users report higher levels of involvement in social activities, fewer worries and more positive social and family experiences than those who have uncorrected hearing loss.
