Tinnitus and Stress

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in your ears or your head in the absence of an external sound source. It is often described as ringing or buzzing. It is often reported as a high pitched sound which can be very bothersome to many people affected with it. On the flip side, there are many people who report tinnitus but also report it as non-bothersome.

Why is it bothersome to some and not to others? No one really knows the answer to this. Be assured that much research continues into the mechanism which causes tinnitus – to date it remains unidentified.

However, if tinnitus is bothersome to you, then consider Sound Conditioning as a treatment strategy. Of course you are welcome to come in to clinic to discuss this as an option. You should also know that stress is often identified by many of my clients as a factor which causes their tinnitus to be worse. That is, it becomes more bothersome to them when in periods of stress.

The take away from this short piece is … reduce stress and you will likely reduce the annoyance level of your tinnitus.

Be sure to follow this blog for a future discussion of Sound Conditioning and its impact in regards to tinnitus suppression.
